HISTORY OF HAELAN 851

Haelan 851 is a third generation product. The first generation product was developed by a nutritionist working in hospitals in China. Her idea was to provide proper nutrition but at the same time, give the patients foods that benefited them the most. The basic concepts were twofold. Firstly, all foods have calories but some foods are better for you than others. All foods are not equal in nutritional values. Secondly, proper nutrition was more than simply consuming copious quantities of fats, carbohydrates, proteins, vitamins, and minerals as most people rationalize. A good diet must include a harmonious blend of enzymes, amino acids, vegetable proteins, nutrients and micronutrients that are found lacking in many diets either because of poor food choices, poor soil conditions, or food preparation that destroys the valuable nutrients and micronutrients in the unprocessed food.

Working with hospital patients, without any particular problem in mind, research was performed using trial and error techniques involving the substitution of various food items. It was learned that people obtained a better nutritional profile in all cases, more so, when they ate soybean products than any other food item. Continued research proved that the most nutritious food item was soybeans and the most beneficial dietary components in the soybeans were the isoflavones, protease inhibitors, saponins, phytosterols and inositol hexaphosphate compounds. The first generation soybean protein beverage came out of this initial work.

Years of work followed to improve the basic product in four areas: (1) Selection of the Soybeans; (2) Selection of the Geographical Growth Area; (3) Selection of the Soybeans by Age; and (4) Processing of the beans to (a) produce beneficial dietary metabolites with the valuable micronutrients through fermentation, (b) improve digestion and assimilation of the nutrients, and (c) insure that the nutrients were not destroyed in the processing. Haelan 951 is a result of years of research.

SELECTION OF THE SOYBEANS

There are over 10,000 species of soybeans. Research proved that all soybeans are not equal. Haelan 951 is manufactured with soybeans that have been selected by species to guarantee maximum nutrition.

SELECTION BY GEOGRAPHICAL AREA

The nutritional value of a species of soybeans varies up to 50%, depending on the geographical area of growth because of the minerals in the soil. Research has shown that when minerals in the soil are lacking, there are also nutrients missing in the soybeans. Haelan 951 soybeans are selected by geographical growth area to produce the highest nutritional values with a full spectrum of naturally occurring beneficial compounds and other vital nutrients in every bottle.

SELECTION BY AGE OF THE SOYBEANS

The nutritional value of soybeans varies up to an additional 50% depending on the age of the beans used for processing. Haelan 951 soybeans are handpicked at the most nutritious time to insure maximum nutrition.

SPECIAL PROCESSING OF THE SOYBEANS

Years of effort went into perfecting the handling, preparation, and fermentation process in order to protect and enhance the soybean isoflavones, protease inhibitors, phytosterols, saponins, inositol hexaphosphate, and other beneficial dietary nutrients and micronutrients that are contained in the soybeans picked for processing. The enhanced end product contains single cell fermentation proteins and their metabolites, soybean proteins, polysaccharidepeptides, and amino acids that set a new performance standard for oral nutritional products to be judged by.
